Eye Exams

Dr. Berbos and the Mountain View Eyecare team take even routine eye exams very seriously. During a yearly or bi-yearly examination, our Helena patients will receive a patient history review, a series of vision and eye tests, assessments of eye focusing and movement, and an eye health evaluation. Our doctors will discuss any additional testing that may be required to diagnose an eye disease or condition. Call us a today at 406-442-3937 to schedule an appointment.

Cataracts And Cataract Surgery

Your eye works a lot like a camera. Light rays focus through your lens onto the retina. Similar to photographic film, the retina allows the image to be "seen" by the brain. Over time, the lens of our eye can become cloudy, preventing  light rays from passing clearly through the lens. The loss of transparency may be so mild that vision is barely affected, or it can be so severe that no shapes or movements are seen -  only light and dark. When the lens becomes cloudy enough to obstruct vision to any significant degree, it is called a cataract.

Except for unusual situations, a cataract operation is indicated only when you cannot function satisfactorily due to decreased vision caused by the cataract. During cataract surgery, Dr. Berbos will replace your natural lens with an intraocular lens implant (IOL) in order to restore your vision. This is an artificial lens, usually made of plastic, silicone or acrylic material, surgically and permanently placed inside the eye.

Dr. Thomas Berbos will perform a complete cataract evaluation prior to making the decision for surgery. If surgery is decided on, the procedure will be performed by Dr. Berbos at the Helena SurgiCenter. All surgical follow up appointments will be conducted by Dr. Berbos at Mountain View Eyecare.
